Laser run and swim for athletes from any sport to try laser run, along with an optional swim time trial. Laser run is both a stand alone sport and a component of Modern Pentathlon (along with swimming, obstacle course racing and fencing).

Event format:

  • Swim is freestyle (any stroke permitted) in a 50m heated outdoor pool.
  • Laser Run involves athletes hitting a target 5times with a laser pistol, running a lap and repeating.
  • Ribbons awarded to top 3 scores in each category

Distances and ages: Ages are calculated as current year – birth year, I.e 2025-2014=11, which is Under 13 (not Under 11). Athletes can compete in any distance, but are only eligible for ribbons at or above their age, I.e an under 13 athlete is eligible to win under 15 category if they choose to enter it, but not eligible for awards if they enter as under 11

  • Under 9/Under 11: Run 2x300m, Shoot 2x5 hits (2 hands) from 5m, Swim 50m
  • Under 13: Run 3x300m, Shoot 3x5 hits from 5m, Swim 100m
  • Under 15: Run 3x600m, Shoot 3x5 hits from 5m, Swim 100m
  • Under 17: Run 4x600m, Shoot 4x5 hits from 10m, Swim 200m
  • Under 19/Junior/Senior: Run 5x600m, Shoot 4x5 hits from 10m, Swim 200m
  • Masters 30-59: Run 3x600m, Shoot 3x5 hits from 10m, Swim 100m
  • Masters 60+: Run 2x600m, Shoot 2x5 hits from 5m, Swim 50m

Schedule

  • 9:00 Swim Briefing – Confirming all details including heats and distances.
  • 9:20 Swim Heat 1 Commences – Ensure you are ready at the blocks at this time. Subsequent heats will begin immediately after first heat is completed.
  • 10:30 Laser Run Briefing – Overview of key rules to be aware of, race heats and distances, course walk.
  • Both after completion of swim heats and after briefing, there will be opportunity to practice laser shooting before the competition.
  • Athletes will also have 5minutes before their heat to ensure a gun they are happy to use is in their position and to have final practice shots.
  • 11:15 Heat 1 Commences – Athletes to commence 5min warm up for following heat immediately following completion of first heat. Ensure you remove any personal items from range upon completing your heat.

 Entry Fees:

  • $25 per athlete to enter both laser run and swim events.
  • Athletes competing in the swim will also pay a small fee on the day to enter the pool
  • All athletes must be a member of a Modern Pentathlon Organisation - this can be a trialist membership for NSW Modern Pentathlon which is just $5 and allows you to compete in most Modern Pentathlon events in Australia for 3months.
